Chewy Dried Plum Spice Cookies

Prep Time 20 minutes    Cook Time 15 minutes     Serves 36

Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar, divided
1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
1/3 cup molasses
1 egg
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon white pepper
1 cup (about 6 ounces) pitted dried plums (prunes), coarsely chopped

Directions

Heat oven to 350°F. In mixer bowl, beat together butter, 1/2 cup of the granulated sugar and the brown sugar until creamy. Add molasses and egg; beat well. In separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, ginger, cardamom, cloves, salt and pepper. Add to butter mixture, mixing just until dry ingredients are incorporated. Mix in dried plums. Cover; refrigerate 1 hour or until dough is slightly firm.

Shape dough into 36 (1-inch) balls. Roll balls in remaining 1/2 cup sugar to coat. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until cookies are just set. Let cool slightly on baking sheets and then remove to wire rack to cool completely.

  1. These are excellent! Well done. I didn’t change a thing. I did end up with more than 36 making one inch balls, but glad I did. I ate too many, anyway. I had two 16 oz. bags of moist, dried plums and looked for something to make out of them. These were perfect. Thanks for posting.
