What are dried plums (prunes)?
Prunes (Prunus domestica) are technically known as the dried fruit of the prune plum. This is a special type of plum that can be dried with the pit still intact in the fruit without spoilage.
The picture to the right shows some prune plums as they grow on the tree. Most of the plums from the United States grow in the central region of California.
